NFL free agency tracker: Giants work out Tim Hightower

Looking to add depth at running back, the New York Giants will meet with Tim Hightower this weekend.

The New York Giants will meet with free agent running back Tim Hightower this weekend, according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News. Hightower hasn't played a regular-season game since tearing his ACL with the Washington Redskins in October of 2011.

New York is looking to add running back depth behind David Wilson and Andre Brown. If signed, Hightower would compete with Ryan Torain and Da'Rel Scott for the third-string position.

Hightower's career got off to a strong start with the Arizona Cardinals, where he showed a knack for getting in the end zone and as a receiver out of the backfield. He won the starting job with the Redskins in 2011, but tore his ACL in the fifth game of the season. In the 2012 preseason, Hightower had five rushes for 28 yards with Washington, but was cut as his knee didn't appear fully healthy. During the season he had another surgery on his knee to repair a damaged meniscus.

Still, he is only 26 years old and, if healthy, could contribute to the Giants or whatever NFL team signs him.
