NFL free agency 2013: Fred Davis meets with Bills in Buffalo

Tight end Fred Davis took his second meeting with the Bills on Thursday, this time in Buffalo.

Free agent tight end Fred Davis met with the Buffalo Bills at their team facility on Thursday. Davis, the top tight end remaining on the free agent market, had dinner several Bills officials in Washington on Saturday, March 23, and followed up with a meeting in Buffalo, N.Y.

The Bills are one of four teams gunning for Davis, along with the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, and Washington Redskins. Davis met with the Jets on Wednesday and has been connected to the Browns in rumors before. For their part, the Redskins would love for him to stay put and have been negotiating with him.

Davis, 27, has showed potential, but also has a few red flags. He put up solid numbers when playing, but tore his Achilles in Oct. 2012 after the Redskins franchised him last offseason. He also served a four-game suspension for a positive drug test in 2011 and is involved in an ongoing civil suit.

Still, Davis has value, particularly in this thin tight end market. He would be an upgrade for any of the four teams trying to sign him. Buffalo's starting tight end from 2012, Scott Chandler, tore his ACL in December and likely will not be ready for the start of the season.
