The Washington Redskins signed free agent defensive end Darryl Tapp on Thursday according to Adam Schefter. Tapp spent the last three years with the division-rival Philadelphia Eagles.

The Washington Redskins made a minor move in free agency, signing defensive end Darryl Tapp

Tapp, a 2006 second round pick of the Seattle Seahawks, spent four years in Seattle before signing with the Eagles. Prior to last season the Eagles were looking to trade Tapp, but he ultimately agreed to cut his salary. In 2012 he totaled 17 tackles and half a sack in 13 games as a reserve end.
Tapp showed some promise in his second season with Seattle in 2007, notching seven sacks, three forced fumbles and eight passes defended, but has regressed each year since.
He is from Virginia and went to Virginia Tech, so has plenty of local ties with the Redskins. Perhaps a return closer to home will spark the 28-year-old Tapp into a career rebirth with the Redskins, where he will likely continue to serve as a reserve defensive lineman.
