NFL free agency 2013: DB Mike Jenkins reportedly seeking multi-year deal

Jenkins, reportedly after that multi-year deal, is currently in Jacksonville visiting with the Jaguars.

Free agent cornerback Mike Jenkins is in search of a multi-year contract, according to a report from Ryan O'Halloran of Jacksonville.com, as he visits the Jaguars in Jacksonville on Friday.

O'Halloran also notes that the Oakland Raiders have expressed an interest in the former first round pick out of South Florida. After spending his first five seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, getting named to the 2009 Pro Bowl roster after registering five interceptions and 19 passes defensed in his second year in the league, Jenkins appears ready to move on, and the Cowboys do too.

The Jaguars gave up an average of 239.5 passing yards per game in 2012, which ranked 22nd in the league. With the likes of Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub and emerging Indianapolis Colts signal-caller Andrew Luck, pass defense will be a priority for the foreseeable future in the AFC South. Playing in 13 games for Dallas in 2012, Jenkins had 14 combined tackles, three passes defensed and no interceptions.

Above all that, however, it may come down to Jenkins’ aforementioned desire for a multi-year contract, if and where he’s offered it, that determines his destination more than anything.
