NFL free agent tracker: Daryl Smith visits Rams on Monday
Jacksonville Jaguars free-agent linebacker Daryl Smith will visit with the St. Louis Rams on Monday.
Smith spent the first nine years of his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but appeared in a career-low two games in 2012 because of a groin injury. Though Smith has proved durable over his career, missing just four games over his first eight seasons with the Jaguars.
In 2011, Smith proved he’s capable of playing at a very high level, recording 107 tackles and three-and-a-half sacks, while intercepting one pass and forcing two fumbles.
St. Louis has a need at outside linebacker and if Smith ends up with the Rams, he'll be given an opportunity to earn a starting job. Rocky McIntosh and Jo-Lonn Dunbar are currently penciled in as St. Louis' starting outside linebackers.
Jacksonville selected Smith in the second round of the 2004 NFL Draft out of Georgia Tech. In nine seasons with the Jaguars, Smith recorded 679 tackles, 21.5 sacks and six interceptions, while forcing nine fumbles and recovering five.
