NFL news roundup: Adrian Peterson not 100 percent, Darrelle Revis trade running out of time

The NFL is in full swing with the NFL Draft just a couple weeks away. Here’s the headlines from Tuesday.

USA TODAY Sports

Quarterbacks are in the headlines in this edition of the roundup, possibly due to the fact that the 2013 draft class of QBs is relatively weak. Here are a few of the bigger headlines recapping what went down on Tuesday.

Peterson not good to go

Adrian Peterson erased any and all past and future doubts about his ability to heal quickly when he rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns in Week 1 of this past season, just eight months after major surgery to repair a torn ACL and MCL. But news came out on Tuesday that Peterson wasn't totally recovered from January hernia surgery, though the team hopes he will be back in time for OTAs in May, or even voluntary workouts in late April. Check out Daily Norseman for more on the Vikings.

Time running out on Revis trade

The New York Jets won't have Darrelle Revis beyond the 2013 season, that much is known. That's why the team wants to offload him now, but the chance of earning 2013 NFL Draft picks is getting slimmer and slimmer each day. With the draft just a couple weeks away, the window of opportunity to get something done is closing, and for the rebuilding Jets, it should be a priority.

Russell drawing actual interest?

Whether or not JaMarcus Russell will actually complete his comeback to the NFL, nobody can deny that he's actually giving it some effort this time around. On Tuesday, it was reported that both the Chicago Bears and Arizona Cardinals are showing the most interest in Russell this offseason. Getting signed to either team would really be something, especially considering that he might have a chance to compete with the latter.

Winston frustrated with free agency

Free agent offensive tackle Eric Winston is "frustrated" by the way free agency has gone thus far. He's adamant that he's not over-valuing himself in wanting $3-4 million per season.

Blogging The Boys: Winston, Cowboys are talking

It was a strong class for offensive tackles at the beginning, and the upcoming draft is incredibly deep at the position as well, which is surely hurting Winston’s value.

Dallas asks Free to take pay cut

Doug Free is set to make $7 million in 2013, with a cap hit of $10.02 million. For the Cowboys, that's way too much, especially given that Free was the most-penalized offensive tackle in the NFL last season. Dallas would like to bring in the aforementioned Winston to take over the position, with Free kicking inside to guard. However, though the team has asked Free to take a pay cut, he doesn't have much incentive to do so, given that his cap hit will remain the same if he is released.

Saints re-sign De La Puente

The emergence of Brian De La Puenta as a top-flight center has been excellent for the Saints, but the two sides have been unable to come to terms on a long term contract as of yet. On Tuesday, the team officially re-signed him on a one-year deal worth $2.023 million, and smart money is on the team trying to work out an extension this season.

Bills pay Kolb ... sort of

On Tuesday, the contract numbers for quarterback Kevin Kolb trickled out, and some sense was made of the initially reported $13 million contract. As it turns out, Kolb is only guaranteed $1 million, with a base salary of $6.1 million. He can reach $13 million, but only if he's the starter and reaches plenty of incentives and escalators.
