Despite reports to the contrary on Tuesday, the Arizona Cardinals do not have interest in JaMarcus Russell, according to Mike Jurecki.
Jamarcus Russell rumors: Cardinals reportedly have ‘zero interest’
The Arizona Cardinals reportedly are not interest in former No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell, despite a report to the contrary on Tuesday.
Russell was drafted by the Oakland Raiders with the No. 1 overall pick in 2007, but lasted just three years in Oakland before his release. Russell has since been out of football.
Arizona's reported interest in Russell made sense. Despite trading for Carson Palmer from Russell's old team, the Oakland Raiders, Arizona still has big issues at the position. Drew Stanton and Ryan Lindley are Arizona's second and third-string quarterbacks, so the Cardinals could stand to add competition at the position.
The latest reports indicate that the Cardinals are not interested, however.
In three seasons with Oakland, Russell completed just 52.1 percent of his passes for 4,083 yards, 18 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. Russell fumbled the ball 23 times.
