Tim Dobbins re-signs with Texans
The Houston Texans announced on Twitter that they have re-signed inside linebacker Tim Dobbins on Friday.
Dobbins was a fifth-round pick in the 2065 NFL Draft out of Iowa State by the San Diego Chargers. He spent his first four seasons with the Chargers and played in every single game but two. He was traded to the Miami Dolphins before the 2010 season. He was released by the Dolphins after one season and signed as a free agent with the Houston Texans before the 2011 season.
In 2012, Dobbins stepped in for Brian Cushing in Week 5 when the starting linebacker tore his ACL against the New York Jets. He started the majority of the team's remaining games as Cushing's replacement and was a part of the Texans' No. 7 ranked defense throughout the regular season.
In his career, Dobbins has made 253 tackles, two sacks, three interceptions and has 12 passes defensed. While a healthy Cushing will re-take his spot in the starting lineup, Dobbins will provide much-needed depth at the position, which was considered a weakness of the defense heading into the 2013 season.
