NFL free agent tracker: Calvin Pace signs with Jets

Pace was released earlier in the 2013 offseason in a move to clear salary cap space.

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

After five seasons with the New York Jets, outside linebacker Calvin Pace will return for a sixth year with the team, as he agreed to a one-year deal with the Jets on Tuesday morning, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Pace, 32, was a first-round selection of the Arizona Cardinals in the 2003 NFL Draft and played five seasons there before signing with the Jets in free agency on a six-year deal worth $42 million. Earlier in the 2013 offseason, Pace was released by the Jets in a move to clear salary cap space.

In five seasons with the Jets, Pace has started all but nine games and recorded 28 sacks. His number of sacks has declined in each of the last four seasons, though, as he finished 2012 with just three sacks, the fewest since his 2006 season with the Cardinals.

The Jets finished the 2012 season with the sixth fewest sacks in the NFL, as they were only able to reach the quarterback 30 times. Defensive lineman Quinton Coples and Muhammad Wilkerson led the team with 10.5 sacks combined, as outside linebackers struggled to provide a pass rush.

Official terms of the contract have not yet been released.
