Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning would like Brandon Stokley to re-sign with the Denver Broncos. Stokley said that he does not anticipate rejoining the Broncos after Denver signed Wes Welker earlier this offseason. The addition of Welker has not lowered Manning's desire to retain Stokley, with the quarterback saying, "in a perfect world, I'd like both to be on the team this year."
Peyton Manning wants Brandon Stokley back with Broncos
Manning would love to have wide receiver Brandon Stokley back with the Broncos for another season, despite the addition of Wes Welker.
Stokley would like to return for his 15th NFL season whether it be in Denver or elsewhere. Last season he caught 45 passes for 544 yards and five touchdowns, one of the best statistical performances of his career. He has played with Manning for five seasons (four in Indianapolis from 2003-2006 and last season in Denver) and the two are good friends. “Stokley is a great friend of mine, and as I’ve said all along, he’s always been one of my favorite teammates ever to play with,” Manning said.
The Broncos signed Wes Welker to a two-year, $12 million deal in March and he will take over Stokley's role in the slot. With Welker, Demaryius Thomas, and Eric Decker in the receiving corps, it is unlikely the Broncos have the room to bring Stokley back, despite Manning's desires.
