Chargers expect Danario Alexander at minicamp

San Diego expects their restricted free agent wide receiver to show up at voluntary minicamp even though he has yet to sign his one-year tender.

The San Diego Chargers expect restricted free agent wide receiver Danario Alexander to be on the field for the Chargers' voluntary three-day minicamp starting on Tuesday. Alexander has yet to sign his one-year tender, but has signed an offseason participation contract and taken part in recent workouts.

Alexander caught 37 passes for 658 yards and seven touchdowns in 10 games with San Diego last season and has until Friday, April 19 to sign an offer sheet with another team. Alexander’s tender is worth $1.323 million and the Chargers would not receive any compensation if they chose not to match another team’s offer. If he has not signed an offer sheet by Saturday, then no team other than the Chargers can negotiate with him.

Undrafted out of Missouri, Alexander spent his first two seasons with the Rams before catching on with the Chargers in 2012. San Diego signed him on Oct. 18 and he quickly blossomed with the Chargers. He tied Antonio Gates for the team lead in touchdowns while only playing 10 games and led the team with 17.8 yards per reception.
