Darrelle Revis trade rumors: Jets’ price might be too steep

The Jets’ asking price for Darrelle Revis remains high, and it’s possible the Buccaneers will pass unless the price drops.

The New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers continue to discuss a possible Darrelle Revis trade, but if any deal is going to happen, the Jets may need to lower their asking price. New York is currently insisting on three draft picks, but Tampa Bay may pass on a deal, according Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.

The Jets are reportedly asking for the No. 13 pick in the 2013 NFL Draft as well as additional picks in the third and fifth rounds. Reports have varied on whether Tampa Bay is willing to trade the 13th pick, but according to Stroud, the Bucs would trade their first-round pick and an additional pick.

Tampa Bay has long been considered the frontrunner to land Revis, and the lack of interest from other teams could be one reason the Bucs are unwilling to increase their offer. The Bucs believe they are the only team with the cap space and a big enough need at cornerback to be willing to pay the high price for the Pro Bowl cornerback, according to Stroud.

If a deal is going to happen, it may need to come sooner rather than later. According to reports, Tampa Bay would want several days to conduct a medical evaluation of Revis. With the draft just over a week away, the deal may need to come soon. Although Tampa Bay will want to do its own evaluation, Jets general manager John Idzik said the team is pleased with the results from Revis’s rehab, according Conor Orr of The Star-Ledger.
