William Moore, strong safety for the Atlanta Falcons, was arrested on Thursday for a charge of simple battery, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Moore, the safety who recently re-signed with the Atlanta Falcons, was arrested Thursday.

A second-round pick in 2009, Moore was named to his first Pro Bowl last season. Retaining him was one of the Falcons’ priorities in free agency, as they rewarded him with a five-year, $30-million contract. There is no further information regarding the arrest, and the organization isn’t willing to speak further about the matter at this time, telling the AJC:
“We are aware of the situation involving William Moore and are in the process of gathering more information, because this is now a legal matter, the club will have no further comment at this time.”
Starting 12 games in 2012, Moore finished his fourth NFL season amassing 75 tackles, defending eight passes, and recording four interceptions. He also won NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors in Week 13 following a game against the division rival New Orleans Saints in which he finished with 11 tackles and two interceptions.
The arrest is the first off-field altercation attributed to the forth-year safety. Retaining him was vital in keeping the Falcons’ secondary intact, but his arrest marked an inauspicious start to the Falcons’ season on a day where the NFL schedule was released.
