Carson Palmer trade rumors: Dennis Allen admits QB is not part of Raiders plans

Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen has made it clear that quarterback Carson Palmer is not in the team’s plans going forward.

The Oakland Raiders are officially set to move on without quarterback Carson Palmer, according to Steve Corkran of the Bay Area News Group. Head coach Dennis Allen confirmed that Palmer is not in the team's plans going forward.

“When we looked at it, both from his standpoint and our standpoint, we just realized that it was time for us to move on and move forward,” Allen said, according to the report. From Oakland’s standpoint, Palmer is making too much money in 2013, with $13 million supposed to go his way.

Palmer, on the other hand, wants out due to the fact that he doesn't really believe in the team or its front office. He's not a fan of the offense and really is about as unhappy as a starting quarterback can get. That's why the rumors are heavy that Palmer will be going to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for a late-round draft pick. As part of the trade, Palmer would likely have to agree on a pay cut.

According to Kent Somers of AZ Central, Palmer was in Arizona on Monday night and had dinner with Cardinals executives. Given that Palmer is currently unhappy with his situation he’ll likely want to speak with the team on general philosophy in regards to the offense and where it’s going, and the two sides will also need to talk contract, as well.

Further cementing Palmer's likely departure is the fact that the Raiders traded for Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Flynn. He was the presumed starter for the 'Hawks in 2012, but rookie Russell Wilson took the team and the NFL by storm, leading the team to an 11-5 record and a road playoff victory. His contract number was too much to carry him as a backup, so Oakland made a move.

Flynn is younger, cheaper and has more upside than Palmer. All signs already pointed to Palmer’s departure, and Allen’s confirmation can only mean that the team is confident in its situation moving forward and or it has finalized a trade for Palmer.
