Scott Pioli praises Tom Brady’s contract extension with Patriots
Former Patriots executive Scott Pioli is a fan of Tom Brady’s contract extension with the New England Patriots. The extension allowed the Patriots to free up some money to sign other players.

He responded with glowing praise regarding Brady’s decision to move some money around for the team’s success. He said “In the case of the Patriots, you have to hope you have players like Tom Brady, who are willing to take less to spread out more amongst their team.”
Pioli also noted that Brady may not be paid among the absolute top quarterbacks in the NFL, when Brady is pretty much indisputably among those players. He cites huge contracts given to Joe Flacco by the Baltimore Ravens and Tony Romo by the Dallas Cowboys.
Both of those teams had to part ways with significant players this offseason and will likely have to in future years due to those contract, as well. Given that quarterbacks these days seem to be after that “highest paid” milestone, it will be very interesting to see if the market tops out at some point or if they will continue to get larger. At any rate, it’s unlikely that a Brady-style pay cut will become the norm.
