Carson Palmer trade rumors: Cardinals-Raiders deal expected in next 24 hours

The trade sending Carson Palmer to the Arizona Cardinals is likely to be completed within the next 24 hours.

After hitting speed bumps along the way, the Arizona Cardinals' trade for quarterback Carson Palmer is nearly complete and should be done within the next 24 hours according to ESPN's Ed Werder. Palmer was seen in Phoenix on Monday night, having dinner with the Cardinals.

The trade was first reported on Friday, but has yet to be completed and was in question on Monday, when things "hit a snag." Now it appears that whatever snag was hit has been worked through and Palmer will head from Oakland to Arizona.

The Raiders traded with the Seahawks for Matt Flynn on Sunday, who they expect to become their new starter. Flynn makes Palmer, and his massive contract, expendable in Oakland, with Raiders coach Dennis Allen going as far as to say Palmer was not part of their plans on Tuesday. Palmer, 33, is owed $13 million in 2013 under his current contract. It is expected that the Raiders will receive a mid-round draft pick in exchange for Palmer.

Arizona is in desperate need of a quarterback as they finished with a 63.1 team passer rating in 2012, the lowest in the league. The Cardinals saw four different starting QBs in 2012: Kevin Kolb (now with the Bills), John Skelton (released on Monday), Ryan Lindley and Brian Hoyer.
