Browns rumors: Wide receiver David Nelson visits Cleveland

The Cleveland Browns will meet with free-agent wide receiver David Nelson on Thursday.

Wide receiver David Nelson will visit the Cleveland Browns on Thursday, according to Tim Graham, as the team continues to try to add depth to its offense. Nelson spent his first three seasons in Buffalo and is coming off a torn ACL.

Nelson tore his ACL in the Bills' Week 1 game against the New York Jets on Sept. 9 and expects to be ready for the start of the regular season. In 2011, Nelson played in all 16 games, starting 13, and totaled 61 receptions for 658 yards and five touchdowns.

The Browns are in need of help at the wide receiver position, a spot where they've struggled to find consistency for the past several seasons. Both Mohamed Massaquoi and Joshua Cribbs are free agents, with neither likely to return to Cleveland. Cribbs is expected to sign with the Cardinals once he is fully healthy.

With those two on their way out, the Browns will certainly bring in at least one player to add to a receiving corps featuring Greg Little and Josh Gordon. Cleveland has yet to sign any free agent wideouts, but has shown interest in Domenik Hixon in addition to Nelson.
