With Matt Flynn now a member of the Oakland Raiders, all signs continue to point to Tyler Thigpen signing with the Seattle Seahawks to back up Russell Wilson, according to Jason La Canfora. With Flynn gone, Wilson is the only quarterback currently on the Seattle roster.
Tyler Thigpen favorite to land Seahawks’ backup quarterback job
Free-agent quarterback Tyler Thigpen is the leading candidate to sign with the Seahawks as a backup to Russell Wilson.
Thigpen spent the past two seasons with Buffalo as a backup to Ryan Fitzpatrick, throwing only 13 passes as a member of the Bills. He started 12 games in his six NFL seasons, with 11 starts coming with the Chiefs in 2008 and one start with the Miami Dolphins in 2010. During the 2008 season, in which Thigpen served as the primary starter, he threw for 2,608 yards, 18 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while completing 54.8 percent of his passes. He also ran for 368 yards and three touchdowns.
The Seahawks are believed to be interested in Thigpen because he has familiarity with a read-option offense, running one in college at Coastal Carolina, and he is a capable runner, much like Wilson.
