NFL free agency: Karlos Dansby visiting Buffalo

Karlos Dansby is visiting Buffalo this week and it’s probably not to see Niagara Falls.

The Buffalo Bills are hosting free agent linebacker Karlos Dansby on a two-day visit, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Dansby, who spent the previous three seasons with the Dolphins, will visit the bills on Monday and Tuesday. After being released by Miami in March, he visited the Cincinnati Bengals and has drawn interest from other teams, but is yet to find a deal. The 31-year-old has been a tackling machine throughout his career, including a career-high 134 tackles last season.

In Buffalo, Dansby would likely compete with third-year linebacker Kelvin Sheppard for the starting middle linebacker position. Sheppard, a third round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, started 15 games for Buffalo last season. Sheppard and Dansby could combine to be a formidable duo as they each have different strengths. According to Pro Football Focus, Dansby graded among the best run defending middle linebackers in the league last season. While Sheppard struggled against the run, he graded positively in both pass coverage and as a pass rusher.

If the Bills are interested in signing Dansby, it may not take much of a financial commitment. Dansby averaged $8.5 million per season on his last deal, but after drawing very little interest on the open market, he may be forced to settle for a short-term deal closer to the veteran's minimum.
