NFL news roundup: Dolphins willing to pay for Albert, Fujita retires

The NFL was quiet on the non-NFL Draft front Monday evening. You’ll want to hear the latest on Branden Albert, however. Oh, and Pat Summerall in an emo music video.

The NFL Draft begins Thursday, so things are relatively quiet around league in terms of non-draft news. The Kansas City Chiefs and the Miami Dolphins did inch closer to a deal that would send Branden Albert to South Beach, though the Chiefs are still mulling over the Dolphins' offer. Otherwise, it was just another weird day in the NFL.

Check out what you may have missed Monday evening.

Dolphins willing to meet Branden Albert’s long-term contract demands

The Miami Dolphins desperately need a left tackle after letting Jake Long walk away in free agency. The Kansas City Chiefs have made it no secret that they are willing to deal Branden Albert, and it appears that the Dolphins may be willing to give Albert what he wants.

Duane Brown's seven-year deal worth roughly $8 million per season with the Houston Texans is considered to be the same ballpark Albert wants for a new deal, though that's assuming the Chiefs feel they are properly compensated in the trade. The Chiefs are reportedly seeking a second-round pick for their franchise left tackle, and the Dolphins have offered up the No. 54 overall pick.

Seattle extends Kam

The Seahawks have one less potential free agent to worry about next season. Safety Kam Chancellor signed a four-year extension worth $28 million on Monday afternoon. The deal includes $17 million in guaranteed money. Chancellor had 69 tackles last season, part of a fearsome Seattle defense that held opponents to an average of 15.3 points per game.

Scott Fujita retires as a Saint

Scott Fujita has had a long career in the NFL. Most recently a member of the Cleveland Browns, Fujita signed a one-day contract with the New Orleans Saints on Monday so that he could retire with the team with whom he spent four of his most productive seasons. Fujita was one of the biggest names in the whirlwind that was Bountygate, but he was eventually cleared of all charges. He racked up 767 total tackles and 23.5 sacks over 12 seasons in the NFL.

Eric Decker gets a reality series

Eric Decker will be the latest professional athlete to have his life invaded by cameras for the sake of our amusement. He and his also-young, also-sexy fiancee Jessie James will make their debut this summer in a series titled Love And Other Contact Sports: Eric And Jessie on E! Entertainment Television. Get your popcorn ready. I mean, if you're into that sort of thing.

NFL’s silly season

SB Nation NFL editor Ryan Van Bibber breaks down what a strange trip the last few weeks in the NFL have been. Darrelle Revis' massive contract with no guarantees could alter the way players coming off a big injuries will be handled down the road. Meanwhile, Cal wide receiver Kenny Allen saw his name dragged through the mud during the week of the NFL Draft, perhaps by the agents of rival prospects.
