NFL Draft results 2013: E.J. Manuel selected by Buffalo Bills with 16th pick

E.J. Manuel will battle for the starting quarterback position in Buffalo this season.

With the 16th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills took Florida State Seminoles quarterback E.J. Manuel. Manuel is the 98th-rated prospect in the pre-draft rankings from SB Nation's Dan Kadar, and the seventh-rated quarterback.

Manuel went 25-6 in two-plus seasons as the starter for the Seminoles, and capped off his college career by leading Florida State to an ACC championship and Orange Bowl victory. He ranks among the best quarterbacks in program history, but fans could sometimes get frustrated with his questionable decision-making. However, despite his faults, an NFL team could see him as a tantalizing combination of size and speed perfectly suited to run a read-option scheme.

Manuel had his best season in 2012, completing 68 percent of his passes for 3,392 yards, 23 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He also rushed for just over 300 yards and another four touchdowns.

Ryan Nassib looked like the most likely choice, but the Bills went a different direction. Manuel will fight for the starting role against Kevin Kolb this season.
