With the 30th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Saint Louis Rams selected linebacker Alec Ogletree from the University of Georgia. The Rams allowed the 49ers to trade up, falling back to their No. 30 overall pick. Ogletree is SB Nation's No. 2 rated middle linebacker in the 2013 draft class and SB Nation's Dan Kadar rates him as the No. 31 overall player in this year's draft.

The Rams took a chance on a talented linebacker in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft who is capable of giving the team’s front seven a boost.

Overshadowed last year by Jarvis Jones, Ogletree was a big producer for the Georgia defense in 2012 with 111 tackles, 11.5 for loss, and three sacks in just 10 games. A converted safety, Ogletree is among the most athletic and versatile linebackers in the draft. He can drop into coverage or play the run and his change of direction quickness is impressive.
One cause for concern was the reason Ogletree only played in 10 games, as he was suspended for the first four games of the season for violating team rules. He was also arrested in February for DUI, putting more stress on the concerns about his character.
Ogletree is an extremely athletic linebacker with great sideline-to-sideline speed that should fit in well with the Rams’ talented defense. With his speed, he could be an efficient pass rusher as well as a great run defender.
Ogletree should be able to step in as a starter right away for the Rams and should improve the team's front seven, which accounted for 52 sacks, tying them for the league lead with the Broncos. He is the team's second first-round selection and joins wide receiver Tavon Austin, who St. Louis selected earlier in the first round.

For such an athletic player, Ogletree’s combine results were a bit of a disappointment, but he has shown athleticism where it counts: on the field. He recorded 13 tackles and a sack against Nebraska in Georgia’s Capital One Bowl victory and made 11 tackles and returned a blocked field goal for a touchdown in the SEC Championship against Alabama.
