NFL Draft results 2013: Sharrif Floyd selected by Vikings with 23rd pick
The Minnesota Vikings used the No. 23 overall pick on Florida defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd.
Floyd played in 37 games as a Florida Gator, starting in 26. He made 115 tackles in his college career, 26 of which were for a loss. He also recorded 4.5 sacks, broke up a pass, blocked three field goals and forced a fumble. Floyd is extremely athletic for his size and was able to produce not only at defensive end for the Gators, but as a nose tackle as well. He's a little rough around the edges, but he's extremely talented.
Floyd fell to the Vikings at No. 23 and provides them with another talented defensive linemen to use in the tough NFC North division.
In a prospect profile on SB Nation, the following were listed as positives for Floyd:
- Floyd is a great athlete, and uses that to get off the ball before everyone else does. He's a prototypical mauler who often forces offensive linemen into a rapid backpedal to recover.
- A strong initial punch is his best tool off the edge.
- High motor. More and more these days, the top defensive linemen in the NFL are the ones who can play a whole game from start to finish. Justin Smith, Jared Allen and Jason Pierre-Paul are some comparisons from a motor standpoint. Some would call him "relentless."

40-yard dash: 4.92 seconds
Vertical jump: 30 inches
Floyd has the ability to not only be a solid run stopping defensive lineman, but to rush the passer up the middle, collapsing the pocket. A defensive lineman that can push a quarterback to a defensive end can be extremely valuable, especially considering the NFL is by all accounts more of a passing league now than ever before.
