In recent days San Francisco was linked to numerous trade scenarios, willing to move up to the 13th or 14th pick. Ultimately the 49ers’ price was low to move up 13 picks and secure a safety, but not the one believed by many to be the best available. With Jonathan Cyprien on the board, they ultimately took Reid, who was the 41st-rated player on Dan Kadar’s big board.
As the draft board shaped up it became a poor situation for the Cowboys. Targeting offensive and defensive tackles, the top six were off the board. When the New Orleans Saints selected Kenny Vaccaro, it became necessary for them to move back. Desperation led to a scenario where the Cowboys had to take the best trade available, which didn't net a lot of value.
