The Carolina Panthers addressed a glaring hole on their defensive line, selecting Utah defensive tackle Star Lotulelei with the 14th overall pick.
NFL Draft results 2013: Panthers enjoy ‘dream scenario’ with Star Lotulelei
The Panthers took Star Lotulelei in the first round and Carolina fans think their team got “a major steal.”
Panthers blog Cat Scratch Reader is pretty ecstatic about the pick. Here’s what blogger Jaxon had to say:
In what amounted to a dream scenario, the Panthers actually had their pick between the top DTs in the draft and they went with the guy we have been dreaming about ever since his phantom heart problem. There were smiles all around in the Panther war room after the big DT from Utah was still on the board.
Lotulelei will line up at 4-3 NG spot next to recently re-signed Dwan Edwards. Star is the big space-eater Ron Rivera has coveted since the season ended. The Panther run defense just got a lot better.
Once considered a top-5 pick, Lotulelei fell right into Carolina’s lap after a glut of offensive linemen went in the early picks. He’s a perfect fit for Ron Rivera’s defense. The Panthers got a major steal here and should be patting themselves on the back in the war room.
