2013 NFL Draft results: Justin Hunter selected by Titans with 34th pick

The Titans traded up in the second round to add to the team’s wide receivers, giving Jake Locker another target to move the ball down the field.

USA TODAY Sports

With the 34th overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft, the Tennessee Titans selected Tennessee wide receiver Justin Hunter. They traded up from the No. 40 spot (No. 8 in the second round) to grab him. Hunter comes in at No. 59 on SB Nation's top 200 big board and was ranked as the No. 6 wide receiver in this year's draft class.

Hunter was a part of a trio of receivers at Tennessee that was expected to do a ton of damage. However, after Da'Rick Rogers was dismissed from the program, Hunter and Cordarrelle Patterson were left to carry the passing attack. Coming off a torn ACL, Hunter's 2012 season wasn't a booming success, but he did manage 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns.

Jake Locker needs help to move the ball down the field and Justin Hunter should be a reliable target. With a better crop of wide receivers and a new guard to help open holes for Chris Johnson, the Titans offense should be able to move the ball better. Hunter has a big frame and should be a red zone threat for the Titans.

In a prospect profile on SB Nation, the following conclusion was made on Hunter:

Justin Hunter has a world of upside. With the physical talent he possesses, Hunter could become one of the ten best wide receivers in the league. However, his lack of aggression and focus is a big concern. Does he have the drive to refine the parts of his game that need work? We’ll find out.

Combine results

Height: 6’4
Weight: 196 pounds
Arm length: 33 1/4 inches

Hunter has obvious upside due to his combination of size and speed. He was out-shined by Patterson this season at Tennessee, but given the injury he suffered as a sophomore, Hunter has some untapped potential. He decided to leave school early along with Patterson and the team's quarterback Tyler Bray, bringing an end to a largely disappointing passing attack.
