2013 NFL Draft results: Arthur Brown selected by Baltimore Ravens at No. 56

The Ravens aimed to fill a hole at middle linebacker with their second-round pick after the retirement of Ray Lewis this offseason.

With the 56th pick of the 2013 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens chose Kansas State middle linebacker Arthur Brown. Brown is considered one of the best prospects at his position in this draft class.

Brown started for the Wildcats in 2011 and 2012, and he helped lead the team to a Fiesta Bowl appearance in 2012, its first BCS berth since the 2003 season. As a senior, he compiled 100 tackles, seven tackles for loss, two interceptions and one sack. Those numbers were actually a bit of a dip from Brown’s junior season, when he totaled 101 tackles, 9.2 tackles for loss, two sacks and one interception for KSU.

The Ravens needed to address their middle linebackers after Ray Lewis retired and Dannell Ellerbe left via free agency. Brown was one of the top linebackers left on the board and is primed for the opportunity to make a big impact for the Ravens in his rookie year.

Brown is a solid tackler who usually makes a play when given the opportunity. Plus, he’s solid in pass coverage, possessing the skills to stay with slot receivers and tight ends. His biggest weakness would have to be his smaller size compared to other NFL middle linebackers.

Brown is trying to follow in the footsteps of his brother Bryce, whom the Philadelphia Eagles selected in the seventh round of the 2012 draft. He transferred from Miami to Kansas State after the 2009 season and was a key member of the Wildcats' defense after sitting out the 2010 campaign.
