Steve Gleason announces Saints pick

In one of the more inspiring moments on the draft, a Saints favorite announced the team’s third-round pick.

Former New Orleans Saints defensive back Steve Gleason made an appearance on the stage at Radio City Music Hall on Friday night. He was there to announce his former team’s third-round pick, offensive tackle Terron Armstead.

Gleason took the stage to a staggering round of applause.

The former safety and special teams standout is best remembered for his blocked punt against the Falcons in 2006. It was the team’s first home game for the team following Hurricane Katrina, and the moment became a symbol of the city’s resiliency and rejuvenation.

Gleason told the public that he had ALS in 2011. Since then he has been a public advocate working to raise awareness of the disease.
