Bryant McKinnie schedules visit with Chargers

Now that the 2013 NFL Draft is over, Bryant McKinnie could be a hot commodity for teams still looking for a left tackle. On deck: A visit to the Chargers.

Bryant McKinnie is still looking for a new home in free agency. According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, McKinnie has several possible destinations, including the San Diego Chargers. McKinnie has already scheduled a visit down to Southern California, in fact.

McKinnie is currently visiting with the Miami Dolphins, another team in clear need of somebody, anybody, to plug in at left tackle and protect the quarterback. La Canfora reports that McKinnie remains in contact with the Baltimore Ravens, where he played well late in the regular season and through the team's Super Bowl run, despite weight and attitude concerns early in the year.

The Chargers signed King Dunlap to serve as a stopgap at left tackle in case they are unable to find a better option in free agency, and it's not clear that McKinnie would be a marked upgrade. The team also drafted D.J. Fluker in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft, so they should be well set at right tackle for the foreseeable future. San Diego's need at tackle may not be as great as other teams (add in the Detroit Lions, Arizona Cardinals and New Orleans Saints, as well), so they may be easily overbid if they are indeed interested in McKinnie.

The Chargers are still in need of depth, however, and McKinnie continues to prove he is a capable player despite being an occasional thorn in the sides of front offices.
