Dwight Freeney reportedly wants deal similar to Osi Umenyiora

Free agent defensive end Dwight Freeney has once again lowered his asking price.

Defensive end Dwight Freeney, who is still available on the free agent market, has lowered his asking price, according to the Denver Post's Jeff Legwold. Freeney is asking for a contract similar to Osi Umenyiora's recent deal signed with the Atlanta Falcons.

The Falcons inked Umenyiora to a two-year contract worth $8.5 million. For Freeney, that would be a steep reduction from his original asking price this offseason. In talks with the Denver Broncos, he originally wanted $8 million for the 2013 season, before lowering that number to roughly $6 million. If Freeney is willing to sign a contract similar to Umenyiora's, he's lowered his price to the $4.25 million-per-season range.

Freeney was once considered the NFL's best defensive player, but the 33-year-old is entering the twilight of his career. An 11-year veteran, all with the Indianapolis Colts, Freeney has recorded 298 tackles, 107.5 sacks and 35 tackles for loss since his rookie season in 2002. However, those numbers have consistently declined over the last four years. In 2009, he recorded 13.5 sacks, the second-highest total of his career, but he had just five in 2012.
