Baltimore Ravens release Brendon Ayanbadejo

The Baltimore Ravens continued their defensive overhaul by releasing Brendon Ayanbadejo on Thursday.

The Baltimore Ravens continued their defensive overhaul on Thursday, releasing linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo, according to Adam Caplan.

Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome did not rule out the possibility of re-signing Ayanbadejo, saying that the “door may not be closed,” according to Matt Zenitz.

Ayanbadejo spent the last five seasons with the Ravens and was primarily a special teams contributor. He made the Pro Bowl in 2008 -- his first season with the team.

In five seasons with Baltimore, Ayanbadejo recorded 123 tackles, 4.5 sacks and recovered four fumbles.

Ayanbadejo was signed by the Atlanta Falcons in 1999 as an undrafted free agent. He never appeared in a game for Atlanta and didn't make his NFL debut until 2003 with the Miami Dolphins. Ayanbadejo spent two years with Miami before spending three seasons playing for the Chicago Bears between 2005-07.

Baltimore signed Ayanbadejo to a three-year deal last March, but the Ravens decided to cut ties with the veteran linebacker after just one year of his new contract.
