Broncos express interest in Ahmad Bradshaw

In need of another back, Denver is reportedly keeping the former Giant on their potential wish list.

Searching for another running back, the Denver Broncos have former New York Giants back Ahmad Bradshaw on their radar, according to Jeff Legwold of The Denver Post on Friday.

Bradshaw, a free agent after being released by New York this offseason, is still recovering from foot surgery; Legwold notes that he only got out of his walking boot in March, so his overall health and recovery from the procedure remains to be seen and will no doubt play a factor in any potential signing. Legwold also says that the Broncos will likely spend one of their draft picks on a running back as well, though he still maintains that if Bradshaw stays on the open market long enough Denver will take a serious look at making him an offer.

For both injury and productivity reasons, Denver used multiple running backs in 2012. Willis McGahee led the team in rushing yards, with 731, and in attempts, with 167. Knowshon Moreno (138 carries for 525 yards) was second for Denver in both categories, as he and McGahee shared the top spot in team rushing touchdowns, with four apiece.

Ronnie Hillman and Lance Ball also saw varying degrees of time in the Denver backfield. The Broncos ranked 16th in the league with an average of 114.5 rushing yards per game.

With Brandon Jacobs gone from New York last season, Bradshaw got the second-highest number of carries in his career (221 attempts in 2012) and rushed for 1,015 yards -- also the second-highest total of his six-year career -- with six touchdowns on the ground. He also caught 23 passes for 245 yards in 14 games for the Giants.
