NFL free agent news: Rolando McClain waived, Mohamed Massaquoi signed and more

The NFL is alive and kicking, and even on a slow Friday there’s enough news to keep football fans busy.

Rolando McClain was waived by Oakland, Mohamed Massaquoi was signed by Jacksonville and Charles Woodson isn't drawing much attention on the open market: those are just three of the stories that developed Friday in the NFL.

Here’s what you may have missed on Friday:

Rolando McClain was waived by the Oakland Raiders on Friday in a move that surprised no one. McClain was reportedly kicked out of practice last November and took to social media to tell his fans how he was mentally done with the team and wanted to play anywhere but Oakland. He’ll now get his wish as other teams can claim him off waivers.

Be sure to check out Silver and Black Pride’s take on the McClain situation.

Wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars on Friday, according to reports. Massaquoi had spent his entire four-year career with the Cleveland Browns and has caught 118 passes for 1,745 yards and seven touchdowns. The Jaguars hope that Massaquoi will help boost their 21st-ranked passing offense.

Defensive back D.J. Hayden will reportedly work out for the Houston Texans and several other teams this weekend in an attempt to find a new home come April’s draft. Hayden is considered by Mike Mayock to be the third best cornerback in this year’s draft class and could be an early pick.

Free agent cornerback/safety Charles Woodson said he isn't getting a lot of attention on the open market. The 36-year-old defensive back only played in nine games in 2012 due to a collarbone injury and was released by the Packers because of the strain that the five-year, $55 million contract was putting on the team's salary cap.

The San Francisco 49ers signed offensive tackle Anthony Davis to a five-year extension that will pay him $37.2 million over the next half decade, according to reports. The deal reportedly includes $17 million of guaranteed cash. Davis will now be a 49er through the 2019 season.
