Free agency has significantly quieted around the NFL, as most of the high-profile players have already signed contracts. NFL teams are now focusing their attention on preparations for the 2013 NFL Draft, set to begin on Apr. 25.
NFL free agent news tracker: Saints could ‘ponder’ John Abraham, Seahawks inquired about Tim Tebow
The New Orleans Saints could have interest in signing free-agent defensive end John Abraham, while the Seattle Seahawks reportedly asked the Jets about Tim Tebow.
Plenty of older players remain on the market, however -- including pass-rushers Dwight Freeney and John Abraham. A recent NFC powerhouse could have interest in Abraham, while Seattle, a rising power in the NFC, inquired about one of the most divisive players in the NFL.
Saints could pursue Abraham
The New Orleans Saints boasted one of the worst defenses in the league in 2012, and certainly need to improve in 2013 if they're going to return to the playoffs. The Times-Picayune speculates that the Saints could be players for free-agent defensive end John Abraham.
New Orleans recorded just 30 sacks last year -- tied for 25th in the NFL. Abraham would provide new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan with a true pass rusher off the edge.
Seahawks ask about Tebow
The Seattle Seahawks "checked in" with the New York Jets regarding quarterback Tim Tebow according to The Seattle Times. Seattle recently dealt backup quarterback Matt Flynn to the Oakland Raiders, leaving the backup quarterback job up-for-grabs.
Seattle is unlikely to pursue Tebow, however, as he is set to earn more than $2.5 million in 2013 -- and the price is likely too high for the Seahawks to justify. Though Tebow proved he can run an option offense, leading the Denver Broncos to the playoffs in 2011, he remains a poor passer, and the Jets are having difficulty finding a trade partner.
It remains likely that Tebow will be released in the coming weeks.
