Darrelle Revis’ contract requires participation in voluntary workouts, according to report

Revis may not want to attend the Jets’ voluntary workouts, but the $3 million in bonuses may be enough incentive.

The New York Jets offseason conditioning program could get awkward.

Darrelle Revis, who has been the subject of trade rumors throughout the offseason, is currently rehabbing his knee injury in Arizona. However, his contract requires him to attend the offseason workouts to collect $3 million in bonuses, according to ESPN.

Revis is set to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2013 season and cannot be given the franchise tag as part of his contract. The Jets haven’t shown much urgency in signing him to a long term deal, which is why the trade rumors have been flying around.

The star cornerback is expected to show up at the Jets’ facilities, though, despite his desire to continue his rehab in Arizona. That’s the clause he agreed to when he restructured his contract, and he won’t just leave $3 million on the table.

Revis has always shown up for the offseason conditioning program, but given his injury and the constant trade rumors surrounding him, it’s not tough to figure out why he would live to skip this year’s voluntary workouts. But with the workouts taking place before the NFL Draft, it’s unlikely that Revis gets traded before the program starts. So, it looks like a disgruntled Revis will be in New Jersey in a few weeks.
