Andy Reid expects Branden Albert to show up to Chiefs minicamp Monday

Albert remains the Chiefs starting left tackle for now.

Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE

After an offseason spent as the subject of trade rumors, Branden Albert is expected to show up to Chiefs minicamp on Monday and will be playing left tackle, according to Reid Ferrin.

The Chiefs spent the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft on Central Michigan left tackle Eric Fisher. While Fisher played left tackle for Central Michigan, he will start his career playing right tackle for Kansas City. Reid is confident that Fisher can make the shift.

Albert’s long-term future with the Chiefs remains uncertain. He got the franchise tag but has yet to work out a contract extension with the team. Meanwhile, the trade rumors continued right up through draft weekend. For now, he maintains his spot as the team’s starting left tackle, where he had a reasonable amount of success in 2012.

Kansas City invested a high draft choice in Fisher, though, so it appears the team envisions him as the future at the position.
