Robert Woods vying for starting job on Bills

Robert Woods is aiming for a starting spot opposite Stevie Johnson. He’s given himself a leg up by developing chemistry with E.J. Manuel during rookie camp.

After being drafted in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, wide receiver Robert Woods was expected to compete for a starting job immediately on the Buffalo Bills. He's off to a good start so far at rookie camp, according to WGR 550 SportsRadio.

Woods would have tough time unseating Stevie Johnson, but it's not hard to imagine that he could pass T.J. Graham and beat out fellow rookie Marquise Goodwin to become the team's No. 2 receiving option. One of the biggest benefits of the camp is that Woods is already working out with the presumptive starter at quarterback, E.J. Manuel. The two have reportedly already developed a chemistry. Via WGR 550:

“EJ is a great quarterback. Strong arm, great posture in the huddle and on the field,” Woods said. “He’s definitely leading this offense so far. It’s only the rookies out here, but it’s a great start by so far what he’s doing.”

That’s good news for Bills fans, who may have been understandably concerned when the organization selected Manuel with the No. 16 overall pick, much higher than many projected the Florida State quarterback. There is still a long way to go before anyone knows whether the Bills made a good decision or not, but at least Manuel and Woods are developing a strong enough relationship to last several years.
