Bills plan to use Marquise Goodwin as slot WR

Buffalo is trying to find a way to use Goodwin’s blazing speed.

Rick Stewart

The Buffalo Bills emphasized offense during the 2013 NFL Draft. After drafting quarterback E.J. Manuel in the first round, the Bills surrounded him with weapons in wide receivers Robert Woods and Marquise Goodwin in rounds two and three.

Goodwin, who ran the 40-yard dash in 4.34 seconds at the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine, will play the slot in Buffalo, according to the Buffalo News.

At 5-feet-9-inches tall, Goodwin’s potential will always be limited as an outside receiver. In fact, he has a lot of work to live up to his physical gifts regardless of where he lines up. A track star at Texas, Goodwin never fully put it together on the football field in terms of production.

Still, Goodwin will be surrounded by Woods and veteran Stevie Johnson, while having a chance to learn from Bills receivers coach Ike Hilliard. If he improves his route running and gets a bit stronger, the Bills should be able to find a way to make him a weapon on offense. He should also make an impact on special teams right away.
