Joseph Randle injury: Cowboys RB limited in minicamp

Joseph Randle is still recovering from thumb surgery, but he remains very confident about the upcoming season.

Joseph Randle was limited during the Dallas Cowboys' minicamp while recovering from thumb surgery, according to ESPN Dallas. Though he didn't participate as much as he would have liked, Randle still expects to be ready by the start of the 2013 NFL season. When prodded, he didn't hesitate to say he could handle the starting job should anything happen to DeMarco Murray.

Randle fell to the Cowboys in the fifth round at No. 151 overall. Though he put up prolific numbers at Oklahoma State, rushing for over 2,600 yards with 38 touchdowns over his final two seasons, he wasn’t considered among his draft class’ elite running back prospects due to a lack of elite burst and speed.

Randle’s versatility as both a runner and a pass catcher should make him a valuable part of the Cowboys’ offense, however. He could immediately take on a third-down duties. Given Murray’s injury history, there’s a chance we see Randle in even more extensive duty, as well.
