Packers president wants Brett Favre ‘back in family’

The Green Bay Packers want Brett Favre back. Not as a player of course, but the team would like to be on good terms with their long-time quarterback, with the goal of eventually retiring his No. 4 jersey.

The Green Bay Packers want to get Brett Favre involved with the organization and back on good terms. According to Fox Sports Wisconsin on Wednesday, the Packers are set to reach out to Favre, with president and CEO Mark Murphy saying the team wants to have Favre “back in the family.”

Favre’s back in the media spotlight. In his playing days, Favre was always fond of the media attention, but since he actually retired from the game, he’s been far removed from the spotlight. If the Packers have anything to say about it though, he’ll be coming back to the team. We’re just not sure in what fashion.

Since Favre was traded after retiring and un-retiring, there's been something of a rift between the potential Hall of Fame quarterback and the Packers, the team he led to a Super Bowl title in 1997. But Packers exec Mark Murphy noted that the NFL Honors show, which Favre and Aaron Rodgers presented together during Super Bowl week, was a good first step in repairing the relationship.

It’s unclear what the Packers hope to accomplish with Favre, whether or not they want to hire him for some kind of position with the organization or if they just want to mend the fences.
