The NFL and NFLPA discussed the viability of moving back the draft into May, and following discussions Monday it looks like sides agreed on a three-year deal that would change the league calendar.

According to Adam Schefter, the draft would be scheduled for May 15-17 in 2014, 7th-9th in 2015, and 6th-8th in 2016. It would keep the league's established Thursday-Saturday draft schedule, while adding a full month of pre-draft coverage to the calendar. As a result of the later draft, it's proposed the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis would move to mid-March, back from it's current schedule of late-February.

The proposed move also includes changing the league calendar, moving the start of the league year to be before the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. This could mean almost no downtime from the end of the Super Bowl to the beginning of free agency, depending on how early the league want business to begin.

Moving the draft to May serves efforts to keep the NFL a year-round talking point. The excitement of free agency now naturally flows from the end of the Super Bowl, while the lag between the end of the draft until the beginning of team training camps is reduced to a few months.
