Seattle Seahawks waive TE Anthony McCoy

The Seahawks waived tight end Anthony McCoy. He tore his Achilles’ tendon last week.

The Seattle Seahawks waived tight end Anthony McCoy on Tuesday, according to USA Today's Lindsay Jones. McCoy tore his Achilles' tendon last week, and the Seahawks reacted swiftly. If no team claims him, McCoy will revert back to the team's injured reserve list.

The Seahawks filled McCoy’s roster spot by adding offensive tackle Jake Bscherer, a 2013 undrafted rookie out of Minnesota-Duluth via a transfer from Wisconsin. The move makes sense given the Seahawks’ depth chart. Before the addition of Bscherer, the team had just four players listed across the team’s right and left tackle positions. Meanwhile, the Seahawks currently have six tight ends listed on the roster, not including McCoy.

McCoy still has a chance of coming back with the Seahawks this season. Unfortunately, his injury could force him to miss the season. The former sixth-round pick is still a valuable piece of depth, however. He had 31 receptions on 51 targets for 437 yards and three touchdowns over his past two seasons. He averaged 16.2 yards per reception off 18 catches last season.

Zach Miller is still expected to start at tight end for the Seahawks. With McCoy out, Luke Wilson is expected to be the top backup.
