2 men face wiretapping charges for NFL GM prank call

The two men at the center of a prank phone call involving Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Mark Dominik and Buffalo Bills GM Buddy Nix face federal wiretapping charges.

USA TODAY Sports

The two men who allegedly recorded and sold audio of a prank phone call involving Buffalo Bills general manager Buddy Nix and Tampa Bay Buccaneers GM Mark Dominik face federal wiretapping charges in New York, according to the Associated Press.

Plymouth, Mass. residents Joshua Barber and Nicholas Kaiser are at the center of the prank phone call that became a Deadspin.com feature. Prosecutors say Barber called Nix posing as Dominik, then called Dominik and linked the two together via a conference-call function.

Kaiser is identified as the one that recorded the conversation between the two NFL GMs. The general managers had an innocent-enough chat, though said chat did suggest a lack of faith in Buffalo's then-starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick by Nix. The Bills GM said that the team couldn't afford to pay Fitzpatrick what they were paying him, suggesting that he was fighting for "probably a backup job."

Barber and Kaiser are due in court in Buffalo on June 4, according to the report. Both could face up to five years in prison for the wiretapping charges.
