Bill Belichick's admiration for former Rutgers and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano is well documented. The Patriots coach has shown an affinity for Schiano's former players in the NFL Draft and is now going to meet up with Schiano and his staff to exchange notes. It's a curious move considering the two teams meet in Week 3.

Here’s a look at that story and the rest of Friday’s NFL news.

Texans safety Ed Reed has hip surgery

Houston signed Ed Reed to a three-year contract this offseason, but the safety needed to have surgery on his injured hip. The Texans insist that the veteran will be ready for training camp, however, despite a labral tear. Battle Red Blog has a full report.

Daryl Washington charged with aggravated assault

Arizona Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington is among the most talented linebackers in the league, but he continues to get into trouble off the field. Washington was charged with two counts of aggravated assault on Friday after the investigation of a domestic dispute. Washington is already suspended for the first four games of the 2013 season after violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.
