Around the NFL, teams are kicking off their rookie minicamps and preparing for a myriad of organized team activities to really jump-start this portion of the offseason. Most of the news we’ll have going forward will be out of those minicamps, but a steady stream of news hasn’t let up in recent weeks, and Tuesday was no different.
NFL news roundup: Titus Young arrested, Jimmy Haslam apologizes and more
Titus Young was arrested ... twice; elsewhere, Jimmy Haslam apologized to Browns fans and the Patriots signed another free agent on Tuesday.

Given that it's the offseason, there are bound to be a few arrests, but there rarely are two of them on the same day. Even rarer still, it's not usually the same player getting arrested. But former Detroit Lions wide receiver Titus Young managed to do just that, getting arrested first for suspicion of driving under the influence and again within a 15-hour span for trying to steal his car from a tow yard.
Not the best day for Young, but then again, probably not even the worst given his past.
The New England Patriots made a signing on Tuesday. Rather, they claimed running back Akeem Shavers off of waivers. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers initially signed Shavers as an undrafted free agent, but released him on Monday. As to what he can accomplish in New England, he'll have to deal with a crowded backfield that includes Stevan Ridley, Shane Vereen and LeGarrette Blount. One of the more "out there" pieces of news from April, the raiding of Jimmy Haslam's family business, Pilot Flying J, by the FBI, received some attention on Tuesday. Haslam, the owner of the Cleveland Browns, spoke to the media for the first time, though he didn't spend much time talking about the federal investigation. Rather, he apologized to Browns fans for the distractions and negative attention.
Rolando McClain is another troubled player in the NFL. He was released by the Oakland Raiders after multiple off-the-field incidents, and was signed by the Baltimore Ravens. He was then arrested again, and many felt that Baltimore would part ways with him, but on Tuesday, the Ravens came out and said that McClain deserves a second chance. It's clear that the team is banking on McClain's potential, considering he was a first-round pick not too long ago.
