NFL news roundup: Victor Cruz, Giants hit snag on contract, Tim Tebow could be done

Victor Cruz and the New York Giants hit a snag in contract talks, and someone from Tim Tebow’s camp thinks the quarterback could be done in the NFL. Read on to learn more about these topics and other news you might have missed on Friday.

USA TODAY Sports

Restricted free agent wide receiver Victor Cruz has hit an impasse with the New York Giants in contract talks. Rather, the contract negotiations "hit a snag" on Friday, as Cruz is looking for something in the $8 million per year range. Unfortunately for Cruz, slot receivers aren't typically paid as much as outside receivers, and it seems unlikely he'll get the number he's after.

Given that the Giants are also dealing with Hakeem Nicks being absent from OTAs, as noted by Big Blue View, getting Cruz signed is a priority for the team, even if they're reluctant to overpay by their standards.

Here’s what else you might have missed from Friday.

Tebow’s camp speaks, says NFL career is probably over

It's not shocking, but quarterback Tim Tebow may not have a future in the NFL. On Friday, reports suggested that people in "Tebow's camp" said it's not looking like Tebow will find a team to play with. Many have suggested Tebow might find a new team if he agreed to play a different position, but he's sticking to the belief that he should play quarterback. Looks like that's not working out for him.

Freeney says NFL owners colluded to keep FA prices down

Defensive end/outside linebacker Dwight Freeney recently signed with the San Diego Chargers, but he's not happy about the way things worked out in free agency. On Friday, Freeney suggested that NFL owners colluded with each other, agreeing to not spend as much money in free agency to keep costs down. As to whether or not that's true, it's worth noting that Freeney is considered a player on the downside of his career.

Young turned down help from NFL

On Friday, the NFL stated that it reached out to troubled wide receiver Titus Young when he was still with the Detroit Lions. Young apparently declined any and all help from the league, was eventually released by the Lions and then arrested three times, two of which happened in the span of 15 hours. It's difficult to see Young ever making it back to the NFL at this point.

San Francisco signed RB Lattimore

Running back Marcus Lattimore was one of the most intriguing prospects in the 2013 NFL Draft. He looked like the best running back prospect in years before devastating leg injuries took him out of the game. The 49ers picked him in the fourth round and signed him to a four-year contract on Friday. As noted at Niners Nation, though, the first year will likely be uneventful for Lattimore when it comes to actually playing:

Although signed to a four-year deal, this first year will likely be a bit of a wash. Lattimore is continuing his recovery from his brutal knee injury, and will likely start the season on the non-football injury list. The 49ers can stash him there all season so he is back at 100% for 2014 with a year of learning the playbook under his belt. The 49ers selection of Lattimore was very much a long-term play.

Garcon not worried about shoulder

Pierre Garcon figures to be an important weapon in the Washington Redskins passing game, but he has two separate injuries to rehab at this point. On Friday, Garcon said that his shoulder, which was operated on this offseason, won't be an issue going forward. The torn ligament in his foot, however, still has a ways to go before it is fully healed.
