NFL rumors: JaMarcus Russell has tryout with Baltimore Ravens

The defending Super Bowl champs will apparently give JaMarcus Russell a chance.

Quarterback JaMarcus Russell will take his comeback tour to Baltimore, as the former Oakland Raider will participate in a tryout with the defending Super Bowl champion Ravens, according to Ed Werder of ESPN.

More on the Ravens: Baltimore Beatdown

Russell worked out for the Chicago Bears last week, and he's hoping to get a chance to revive his professional football career.

The former No. 1 overall pick hasn’t played in the NFL since 2009, when he completed 48.8 percent of his passes for 1,287 yards, three touchdowns and 11 interceptions over 12 games. In three seasons of action, Russell has played in just 31 games and compiled a 65.2 QB rating. He’s largely considered to be one of the biggest busts in NFL history.

The Raiders selected Russell with the top pick in the 2007 draft because of his impressive stature -- 6'6, 265 pounds -- and college career. In three seasons at LSU, he threw for 6,625 yards, 52 touchdowns and 21 interceptions.

In 2010, Russell was arrested in Mobile, Ala., and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance for drinking a beverage that contained codeine cough syrup, colloquially known as “purple drank.”

UPDATE: The Baltimore Sun is reporting that Russell does not have a scheduled tryout.
