JaMarcus Russell’s name is back in NFL circles. The former No. 1 overall pick will work out for the Redskins.

Ezra ShawThe former No. 1 overall pick hasn’t played in the NFL since 2009, when he completed 48.8 percent of his passes for 1,287 yards, three touchdowns and 11 interceptions over 12 games. In three seasons of action, Russell has played in just 31 games and compiled a 65.2 QB rating. He’s largely considered to be one of the biggest busts in NFL history.
In 2010, Russell was arrested in Mobile, Ala., and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance for drinking a beverage that contained codeine cough syrup, colloquially known as “purple drank.”

His agent says no decision has been made yet. We’ll see if the Redskins opt to go with Russell. As SB Nation DC notes, there are plenty of free agents that worked out for the Redskins on Tuesday so the workout shouldn’t necessarily be an indication that a signing is coming.

Lawyer Predicts JaMarcus Russell Will Be Acquitted
In news that should surprise absolutely no one, lawyer for JaMarcus Russell said Thursday he believes his client won’t be convicted after his arrest over the 4th of July holiday.
Authorities reportedly spent several months investigating the case so I would suspect their case is fairly strong against Russell. His lawyer also believes he was targeted (as most people who are allegedly committing illegal acts are...).

At the very least, JaMarcus Russell would know that the police are taking the matter seriously. Today, the former Raiders quarterback was arrested at his home in Mobile, Ala. for possession of codeine syrup, according to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office.
