Tim Tebow signing with Patriots, according to reports

The New England Patriots are adding an offensive weapon, signing quarterback Tim Tebow, according to reports. This flies in the face of reports that head coach Bill Belichick ‘hated’ the third-year quarterback.

The New England Patriots are signing free agent quarterback Tim Tebow, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and ESPN's Ed Werder. This follows a tumultuous offseason for the third-year player -- one that saw him cut from the New York Jets and waiting during much of the NFL's free agent signing period for a team to be interested.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said he wouldn’t comment on any potential free agent as early as last week, but vehemently denied a report indicating that he ‘hated’ the former Florida QB -- calling it ‘baseless’ and ‘irresponsible’.

It remains to be seen what role Tebow would play in the Patriots' offense. There's a chance he could find a place in certain packages, with offensive coordinator (and former Denver Broncos head coach) Josh McDaniels known for offensive creativity, and unorthodox schemes.

The situation isn't dissimilar to what the Jets tried last year, as they looked to incorporate Tebow into a two-quarterback system. However, his presence created more media frenzy than on-field activity, and the team moved on and selected Geno Smith in the second round of the 2013 draft.

While Tebow certainly wont take any reps away from Tom Brady, his presence on the roster will be an interesting story to follow as the Patriots enter training camp.
