NFL news roundup: Tarvaris Jackson returns to Seattle, injury bug keeps biting 49ers

A familiar face comes back to the Seahawks, while injury issues mar San Francisco’s wide receivers.

Teams around the NFL wrap up their mini-camps this week, putting us well and truly into the doldrums of the calendar until training camp starts. Signings at this point are to fill some cracks and maybe find a gem or two.

Let’s take a look at the late news from Thursday.

Tarvaris Jackson signs with Seahawks

Seattle has found another depth quarterback, as the team signed Tarvaris Jackson to a one-year deal. He was last in Seattle during the 2011 season, when he started 14 games for the team. Once believed to be the future at the position, he was unable to lead the team -- as the team finished 7-9. Jackson didn't wait very long on the open market, as he was signed quickly after being cut on Monday.

Brandon Carswell tears ACL

The 49ers can't catch a break at receiver. One day after signing Brandon Carswell as a short-term option to mitigate their injuries, they've lost him to another one. The team is reportedly looking at oft-injured receiver Austin Collie as a possible option, but the long road before they get back Michael Crabtree is getting longer.

Bears sign small-school offensive lineman

The Chicago Bears are looking for more help on the offensive line after trading Gabe Carimi to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Picking up A.J. Lindeman, a player very few have heard of, seems to indicate the team's issues at finding a solid rotation on the line.

Mike Kafka could start for the Jaguars

Jacksonville are leaving no stone unturned to try and find an answer for their floundering passing game. Word out of minicamp today was that Mike Kafka had ‘as good a chance as any’ to compete for the position after being picked up off waivers -- and will be something to watch in training camp.
